Frequently Asked Questions
An airgun thread adapter — also called an airgun suppressor adapter, an airgun moderator adapter, or an airgun silencer adapter — is a small precision-machined sleeve that converts your rifle's muzzle thread to a different pitch, letting you mount a suppressor or moderator that wasn't originally cut for your rifle. You need an airgun adapter any time the airgun suppressor or moderator you want to run has a different thread pitch than your rifle's muzzle. The most common scenario: you bought a 1/2-20 UNF suppressor (the US default) and want to use it on a European air rifle with M14×1.25 or M18×1 muzzle threads. Rather than buying a second airgun suppressor, a thread adapter lets you keep using the one you already own across multiple platforms — Hatsan, Benjamin Marauder, Crosman, Diana, FX, AEA, and any other PCP or air rifle in your collection.
You need two pieces of information to pick the right airgun thread adapter: your rifle's muzzle thread pitch and the thread pitch on the suppressor or moderator you want to mount. Your rifle's muzzle thread is usually printed in the user manual or stamped on the muzzle itself. The most common US airgun thread pitches are 1/2-20 UNF (used on the Benjamin Marauder, Crosman 2240, Diana Chaser, and most US-market PCPs) and 1/2-28 UNEF (a firearms-pattern thread used on some cross-platform airguns). Common European airgun thread pitches are M14×1.25, M18×1 (most big-bore .357/.45/.50 PCPs), M20×1, and M12×1. Once you know both pitches, the muzzle thread adapter you need is the one that converts FROM your rifle's thread TO your suppressor's thread — for example, an M14×1.25 to 1/2-20 UNF adapter, a 1/2-28 UNEF to 1/2-20 UNF adapter, or an M18×1 to 1/2-20 UNF adapter. If you're not sure which airgun adapter you need, email support@airguncapital.com with your rifle make, model, and the suppressor you plan to use, and we'll confirm fitment before you order.
Airgun thread adapters are not caliber-specific the way airgun suppressors are. The thread adapter sits between the rifle and the suppressor, and the projectile passes through a bore that's sized to clear all standard airgun calibers from .177 through .50. What you do need to confirm is that the airgun suppressor on the other side of the adapter has a front-cap bore sized for your caliber — the adapter changes the thread pitch; the suppressor's exit endcap controls bore clearance for the pellet or slug. So a 1/2-20 UNF adapter, a 1/2-28 UNEF adapter, an M14×1.25 adapter, or an M18×1 adapter will all pass any common airgun caliber; just make sure your airgun suppressor or moderator is the right caliber spec.
A correctly machined airgun thread adapter that's threaded tight on both ends behaves exactly like a one-piece airgun suppressor mount — the projectile passes straight through with no contact. The places where a thread adapter can affect accuracy are if the threads aren't true on both ends, if the adapter is loose against the muzzle shoulder, or if the bore on the adapter or airgun suppressor isn't aligned with the rifle's bore. Every Airgun Capital adapter is CNC-machined to ±0.05mm tolerances on the mating diameters with 2A/2B thread fit class — that's what we mean when we say no pellet clipping and no point-of-impact drift from the adapter itself. As with any muzzle device — suppressor, moderator, brake, or shroud extension — expect a small initial point-of-impact shift the first time you thread the airgun adapter on. Re-zero and you're back to standard groups.
No. Airgun thread adapters and airgun suppressor adapters sold for legitimate airgun use are not regulated under the National Firearms Act. There is no tax stamp, no Form 4, no fingerprinting, no waiting period, and no federal background check required to buy a 1/2-20 UNF airgun adapter, a 1/2-28 UNEF adapter, an M14×1.25 adapter, an M18×1 adapter, or any other airgun thread adapter from Airgun Capital. The unit ships directly to your address. State and local laws are a separate question. Airgun suppressor and suppressor-accessory laws vary by state, county, and city, and it remains the buyer's responsibility to confirm that the airgun adapter, airgun suppressor, or moderator they're ordering is legal at their delivery address before placing an order. If you're unsure about your jurisdiction, check your state attorney general's website or contact your local sheriff's office before purchasing.
Thread the airgun adapter onto your rifle's muzzle hand-tight first. Make sure the threads engage cleanly without cross-threading; if you feel resistance early, back the thread adapter off and start again. Once seated, snug the airgun thread adapter using a wrench flat or the knurled section — finger-tight plus a quarter turn is usually enough on aluminum threads. Then thread your airgun suppressor or airgun moderator onto the adapter's external thread the same way. Re-zero your scope after install — any muzzle device, including a thread adapter, shifts the harmonics of your barrel and will move your point of impact slightly the first time. After re-zeroing, accuracy is unaffected. Most installs of a 1/2-20 UNF adapter, a 1/2-28 UNEF adapter, or any of our metric thread adapters take under two minutes.
